What do I wear?

Anything that you are comfortable to move in. Some ladies like to wear dresses and skirts to dance others prefer pants. As long as you feel comfortable thats what matters. Shoes are something that should be considered. Since you will be doing turning and spinning shoes with rubber soles are not a good idea, try to avoid sneakers. For the guys a leather soled shoe is a good place to start and for the ladies a low heeled shoe with a supported back is a good idea, nothing like a thong which will slip around.

Do I need a partner?

Absolutely not. Many people dance as singles and we try to even out the numbers in our classes between couples and singles and fill in gaps as best we can with helpers and teachers.

Do I need to book in advance?

For our Medal/Technique courses we do require booking in advance so please just send an email or give us a call to book these ones. Our social classes do not require booking, just arrive 10 mins early to complete a very basic enrolment form.

Do I need any dance experience?

Absolutely not. For our social beginners classes no dance experience of any kind is needed. To enter our medal courses, we do like our students to have completed at least to level 1 beginners as we spend a great deal of time on technique and not so much time on steps in these courses.

What dances will I learn?

In our Social Beginners level 1, 2 & 3 classes we teach:

  • Waltz
  • Jive
  • Quickstep
  • Rumba
  • Salsa
  • Slow Rhythm
  • Cha Cha Cha
  • Foxtrot

Once you reach our Social Intermediate Levels you will also learn:

  • Samba
  • Tango

We also have a dedicated one hour Salsa class so please contact us for more information.

I am coming to Humphreys from another dance studio/dance program - where do I fit in?

If you have previous dance experience all you need to do is contact us on 9361 6734 or send us an email and we can easily advise which classes will suit you.  Look forward to hearing from you soon.
